YANGON, Myanmar (AP) - More misery for Myanmar. State media report at least 11 people are dead after their homes collapsed from landslides caused by heavy rain.
A state-run newspaper reports several homes collapsed along a creek where water levels rose as much as three feet. The deaths happened Wednesday and Thursday in a region battered by heavy monsoon rains.
The rainfall has come relentlessly to many parts of the country, including southwestern Myanmar where a devastating cyclone last month killed an estimated 78,000 people. Monsoon rains have further complicated relief efforts which were already hampered by the nation's own ruling generals.
